Yachts For Sale Philippines

When considering a yacht for sale for cruising the Philippine islands, whether for pleasure or for profit, there are four basic things you may want to consider before deciding which type of yacht provides the perfect solution for you. Do you want: lowest initial investment, more space for living aboard, minimum operating costs or do you always want to arrive first at your chosen cruising destination - you cannot have all four in one yacht. You will have to balance your criteria before selecting a catamaran, trimaran or monohull yacht for sale.

Lowest Initial Investment

You will notice that monohull yachts offered for sale are typically less expensive than catamarans or trimarans of the same length overall (LOA). This is simple manufacturing economics - length for length there are more time and materials that will go into building a catamaran or trimaran than into a monohull yacht.

More Living Space Aboard

If you want maximum living space aboard then a catamaran is usually the answer, when comparing different yacht types with a similar length. Most catamarans have sleeping areas in the two hulls (two to four cabins), providing an extra level of privacy; and, providing separate entertainment areas in the centre and around the helm, allowing for more people aboard. With a catamaran you enjoy large areas of open deck space for sunbathing or lounging around, sipping a cool tropical beverage.

For the above reasons, catamarans make good charter yachts, especially for families and for groups.

Minimum Operating Costs

You will most likely realize minimum operating costs if you chose a monohull yacht for sale. The two primary reasons this statement is true are: a monohull yacht uses the least amount of space in a marina (a catamaran will take up twice the space of a monohull), so the marina fees are comparatively low; and, when it comes time to haul-out for anti-foul (usually every 3-4 years) you will have a choice of locations that offer competitive rates in order to attract your business.

These are some of the reasons why monohull yachts have been the predominant sailing yacht for sale for yacht charter, especially for couples and groups of up to four people.

Always Arrive First

Without question, if you want to be the first to arrive at any destination by sailing yacht then you will favor investment in a trimaran. Trimarans can travel at at lest twice the speed of a monohull yacht or cruising catamaran of similar length. It is no wonder therefore that the World Record for non-stop round-the-World sailing has been held by a various trimarans for decades. Trimarans frequently offer some of the extra recreational space of a catamaran (when compared to monohulls) through the use of trampolines between the main hull and the amas. However, they are not so useful as charter yachts because they take quite a lot of sailing experience in order to make them go fast safely.

If there is another factor that may sway your decision then it may be the depth of water at your intended destinations. Monohull yachts typically need two metres or more depth of water beneath them, whereas catamarans and trimarans typically need only one metre or less. Cruising around the Philippines there are such a wide variety of locations of varying depths close to shore that this really does not matter too much.
